4" tyres?

Greetings fellow Enfielders,
I have now swapped my 1999 Bullet 500 standard front end for the Yamaha XVS650 front end I bought a while back - a very helpful gentleman arranged for a new stem to be fixed to the bottom yoke and roller bearings all round. I will post pics when I have made proper brackets for the headlight and speedo, etc. At last I have a front brake that works!
My question is... will a 4" tyre fit on the back wheel? Looking at the swinging arm it will be a bit tight but has anyone done it?
My idea is to put these Ensign tyres:

on front and back... I know it's not "the done thing" but it's my birthday soon and I wanna treat myself.
Hope you are all enjoying another rain-free day!
Cheers,
Peter.

Peter. probably best to buy the wider swingarm..........................................................see item in Accessory catalogue.........................."After testing various other “wider” swinging arms that are available, we decided to develop our own where we have full control over manufacture and quality. We are now pleased to offer a quality English made swinging arm which comfortably allows a 19 x 4” tyre (and slightly bigger if required) to be used. It will fit straight in a standard Bullet without any modifications. It is supplied complete with fitted bushes and painted black."...............................................PART No. DESCRIPTION PRICE
92602 SWINGING ARM WITH BUSHES, PAINTED BLACK, WIDER FOR LARGER TYRE £220.00

Thanks Les, that's very helpful. Particularly when I want to go even bigger than 4" at some point.

Hi Pete. I hope my answer does not put off any body replying to you that has successfully used a 4" tyre with the standard swingarm. It's always nice to get several answers on any question you have so you can make your own considered judgement.

on this link the post on april 11 relates to the host having 4.00 front and back on his bullet and shows alternative tyres which may be of help.

I could not see if he had to do any mods to achieve this and i don't know how it rides but it certainly looks good.

hi peter, the ensign universal trials tyre of the 350 variety just fits in my 2004 swinging arm with altered front chain guard fixing although for some reason the same tyre fits in my 1990 swinging arm just so the answer is probably a swinging arm widening modification is in order,by the wat i have these universal ensign 350 x19 front & rear on both my bullets and it handles realy well all the best paul.
