Hello everyone,I'm currently rebuilding a year 2000 iron barrel bullet that's been apart for over 5 years. (I bought it in bits so didn't strip it.)Things are going well...... 'touch wood' and hopefully I'm not far away from trying to start it up for 1st time. Thing is I'm not sure about the timing,it's fitted with a Boyer mark3 and I've got the engine at TDC and can see through a little hole in the ignition stator plate lines up with a white dot on the magnets behind it but is that it???? Seems a bit easy or have I got it wrong? Instructions I've found online have confused me a bit,can anyone help, worried I'll get a massive backfire and strip my new worm drive!!!! Thanks!!!

Think you have to set boyer with eng on tdc with boyer plate fully to left of btm slot and leading edge of magnet level with stud then lock up magnet rotor then set backplate to mid position in slots.
I then, with primery cover off mark a line on alt stator and rotor I use a plastic protractor to mark 32 degrees btdc on stator then start bike up with a strobe light at about half throttle rotor mark and 32 mark should line up leave the clamp screws on boyer slightly slack so you can move back plate to get it spot on , if it dont line up slacked the centre screw give the magnet plate a tap to loosen and move it one way or the other, a bit of a fiddle to get it spot on but once set you can forget it. Shoulf be something on boyer site re set up. Best of luck.

One problem with the Mk3 Boyer, if there's anything less than full voltage when starting, the electronic advance and retard can go full advance, which is why they're not recommended for battery-less systems or bikes with less-than-perfect batteries. Upgrading to a Mk4 TCI box might be a good idea. A.

Sorry guys should have said bike already fitted and was running very well with boyer ignition.
Thanks for your replies but really just need to know if white dots on magnets were factory and that if aligned with hole in back plate whilst engine at TDC would be correct position try staring bike, timing idler wheels if marked would have avoided all this but unfortunately person who stripped engine didn't do it..........
