I need to remove the speedo drive from the front brake plate on the Model C I am restoring. There is a single cog inside the brake plate which is held on by a collar with what looks like a pin through the collar and shaft. Does any body know how to remove the pin from the collar such that I can remove it from the shaft and so remove the cog?

The pin is usual lightly peened over at the ends to retain it, I removed mine with a narrow punch. It maybe useful to apply a little heat and some WD40 to get it to move make sure the punch is narrower than the pin to stop it jamming in the hole .

Thanks Vince,
One end of the pin protrudes from the collar and the other is flush with the collar. Which end should I hit?

The flush end is the best as there is no danger of burring it over. If however you can get a good grip on the raised end you maybe able to pull it out. As I said before give it some heat and a dose of Wd40 to loosen the bond

Hi Jeff, From memory I think hitchcocks stock the pins. if not A split will probably work but will have to be a good fit in the hole to stop fretting it larger.
