bullet timing cover

Hi has anyone found this in the front oilpump houseing , where the first bearing on the oil pump spindle is in the alloy cover it appears that this has broken through to the drilling for one of the secureing screws this screw is about level with the quill bolt and has always had a fibre washer on it.
This hole is on the top face of the alloy, an old one is similar , dont appear to have a great deal of wear this is on a 1994 500 bullet.
