I got called in to look at an Inter today that the owner was refitting the heads that were removed a couple of weeks ago to fit new rings. Problem was when he tightened the heads down the rockers were holding 3 of the valves open. With the adjusters backed out the locknuts were holding the valves open. I checked everything that I could but was unable to see what has caused this. I fitted the heads to this motor probably 12 months ago and had no problem. Anybody have any thoughts?

Valve seat recession? The Cross rings are in place? REgards, Mark

I know nothing about inters but just a thought are the pushrods of different lengths, inlet & exhaust? Are the rods properly seated on the followers?
Just my 2 cents

Bryan might have a point, though the pushrods are all the same length they have different ends. Are they the right way round? Shallow cup to the rocker l think. REgards, Mark

All new valves about 5000ks back, everything looks to be in perfect condition, pushrods right way around, this thing was together and running fine but a bit smokey, new rings fitted and then this rocker problem surfaced. I ended up putting the locknuts on the top of the rockers and it is fine, up and running and no problems so far. Has me buggered

No Vince, first thing I looked for, but it is running fine with the nuts fitted on top, see how it goes
