Hi all out there,
I`m replacing front fork seals and they will have to be replaced via the top of the tube threads. the manual says cover the threads with paper to protect them during installation. Any advice would be welcome.

Have you got the sliders off? I don't see how you could get the old seals out without.
There's a tech note about this on the left of this page.

Duct tape, and a lot of care is required in getting the old seals out or you will end up breaking the top of the sliders.

A couple of jjubliee clips placed side by side at the top of the sliders will help to support the thin wall while you lever out the old seals. Worked for me...and as usual Norms advice is spot on....proceed with care!
Mr H sells a nifty special tool that slides over the top of the slider offering support and a more solid platform to leaver against or if your handy with a lathe .....

I have found that the plastic screw collar from an old sink p trap does the business nicely, just secure it with a bit of tape. Had a 2 leg puller that was ground so you can have the teeth face out, have someone hold the slider and tap the puller away and out comes the seal spacer just picks out then get the btm seal. To put new ones in I have a bit of wood turned to slightly smaller than the slider id. Piece of cake.

Thanks all,
I have replaced the tubes /springs and bushes and have now decided to renew the bushes , which will now have to go over the top of the tube threads. hence the looking for the advice,I`ll try Norms suggestion, with a lot of care off course.

Hi Wcsc, Are you talking about the older fork seals that thread onto the slide or the later type?

If you slide the new seal assemblies UP then fork tube there is a possibility of damage to the lip being scratched as it passes over the bush retainer...

If you slip the seal assembly down from the top (fork tube removed from yokes) then you can cover the threads with Plastic wrap, Insulation tape, what ever, and slide the seal down.

Norm was referring to removing the latter style Indian fork seals, not the early screw-on ones.
