Tom, it will almost certainly be where the rocker oil feed drilling crosses the crankcase halves, all the Twins (except the Mk2 Interceptor) have this drilling and it often leaks. Engine strip will be required to fix unfortunately. There is a small chance it is the barrel base gasket weeping, indeed it could be both! REgards, Mark

Tom have a look about one inch up from the top of the oil tank under the barrel on the case join

Thanks for the replies
As I feared looks like a lumpectomy..
Will take the opportunity to plug the oil drilling on top of the crank case with a grub screw and insert a hollow bridging dowel between the crank case halves at the back
Cheers!

Tom rather than bridging the gap with a dowel why not tap it and insert a grub screw into the right hand drilling. Thus blanking off the left side case. You can then run a 4-1 rocker feed pipe from the right side only. Our hosts sell this but theirs goes up and around the outside of the barrels and heads. I made one for my 60 meteor using 3 original pipes and kept them running inbetween the heads. Ed

I have 2 motors here with what looks like a breather on the cases join above to oil tank below the barrel. The first one I thought somebody had used a screwdriver to prize the cases apart but there is a slot cut into one side of the case, the second one I found proves it was no mistake

Norm i have 4 of those Twin motors and they all have that grove cut,i'm going to block it off as i'm doing a timing case breather with a 1/8" hole from the oil tank into the timing case so that should relieve any pressure in the oil tank.
That grove must have sent oil mist all over the maggie, genny surely?
cheers

Colin, the timing case mod as you describe will only work if you also do the large bore breather mod from the top of the oil tank. There is currently a discussion on this on the Interceptor Owners Group site with contributions from those who've been there and done it! <
