I'm re-assembling my 2004 Bullet Sixty 5 after a strip-down 12 months ago. I did photograph the strip-down but there is an extra earthing wire about 300mm long that I can't figure out where it goes. There is only one thick earthing strap (green) from the battery negative to the bolt at the rear of the battery carrier, isn't there?(which I have in postion now). I think the extra earth wire (thin black wire with brass connectors) was also connected to the same point on the back of the battery carrier but I can't see where it's other end goes.

That wire is super critical, as it contains the end of the pressure relief circuit which contains the 'smoke' that is inside the loom.
If that wire is connected to the wrong place it allows all the 'smoke' to escape from inside the wire, and then the bike will not run.
Trying to refill the wires with new 'smoke' is not feasible and new loom will be required.
It is an earth wire.

Why are there 2 earthing wires? Surely the heavy green earthing strap is enough. What is the point of this thinner additional earth wire - and where does it bolt to?

Don't know the sixty 5 bike, but maybe it's two circuits? One high current (eg starter) and the other a low current (eg lights).

I'm guessing here but at that length it could be the earth wire from the rectifier/regulator which should bolt to the main earth point behind the tool box..
Make a good clean connection or your charging will be all to hell.. Watch your ampmeter movement when you finally get to fire it up..

Potboiler is the end of the wire bare, or does it have a washer type of connecter crimped on the end of it?

Perhaps something plastic that wouldn't earth to the frame just by being bolted to it? And.... does everything work withut it????? atb -C
