MOT/SORN QUERY

Hi folks, the recent SORN thread has set me thinking! My Bullet is currently on the bench having an extensive rebuild following the bump we had last October. I'm taking the opportunity to sort out those little things we put up with while it's off the road and what started as a "simple" front rebuild now involves new this, that and the other. I diverge. My query is this...the bike is Taxed, and insured but the MOT will expire next month before I've finished the stuff I'm doing so because it will not be rideable on the road do I have to SORN it when the MOT runs out? The DVLA site hasn't seemed to have thought of this situation although they are devious enough to have buried a massive fine somewhere in their small print that awaits me for trying to avoid my dues.

Your bike must be either taxed or on Sorn, so if your tax runs out before you finish it, then you have to sorn it, unless the MOT is still valid, when it can be re taxed. If it is taxed, it must be insured for the road, if sorned, it doesnt. If MOT runs out, just get it done when bike is finished, it is only needed for road use.

As said, when you book your bike in for a nearby m.o.t. (out of date) give them your name and reg no`s so your covered when taking it.

Just an aside here.
If a vehicle is taxed it must be insured, road use or not.
If the insurance runs out you have to renew it or SORN.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I feel much better about the MOT thing now as the bike will be back on the road before the insurance and tax run out. I must also add that this site always seems to come up with the goods, well done folks and thanks again. Ian
