Hi All,

I have a 97 Bullit 500 which is very nearly ready for MoT apart from the front headlight.

The bulb is fine..side lights and indicators fine..where would you suggest I look to solve the puzzle ????

Hi there Lessus----OK, so wht actually is wrong then ?? Have you tried the dip / main with the engine running ?? When was the last time you did some night-time riding??

Assuming it is the main beam and/or the dip beam that are a problem, double check the bulb.

Gat a multi meter and chack continuity from battery to switch.

Then checc from live feed to switch, to the feed to the dip switch, and then to the bulb in either dip or main beam mode.

If that is OK then switch the dip switch to the other position and repeat.

If you have continuity in each of these stages then you may need to run an earth back to the frame from the headlight.

If you have recently painted any areas where leads run to earth, expose them and clean the paint away.

I am assuming that you do have a fully charged battery of course.

If the lights were recently working then something has changed within the light, switches or the wiring/earth.

HTH.

Hello Lessus,-------Ah - ha !! I see. OK. I only asked because I was in the same exact situation a few years ago ie the evening before the Bullet Sixty-Five's MoT and, during final "what have I forgotten" checks, the H'lights wouldn't work, but the rest did. And, like you are doing with this posting, I contacted my mate for some ideas. He just calmly said }----Have you started the engine ??  Well, he actually said }----" You big *&xx£=== fairy, have you started the  "*******" engine ? The point being, in my endevours to be absolutely A-OK for the test I'd forgotten about the main / dip being direct feed lights. Apart of course from the H'lamp flash, which is fed from the batery. Odd, but there you are. have you tried the H'lamp flash ?? Have you tested the bulb out of it's holder, seperately, with some wires and a 12v battery? Check the two terminal clamping nuts on the Ammpmeter--- I seem to remember some feed coming from there ??

Mike is right a multi Meter will gfive you the True Answer!

BUT: on my 98 350 ...Twice I had to Re-Wire the Big On Off Light Switch in the  CASQUETTE,(Not A Hard Job Nice Big Plug terminalas) if you Have One.

2nd & Reguler Problem Is Just The Imidate Plug Conectors Behind the Bulb.(I have Never Owend an Enfield yet that dont un Plug its self)..

Check the Push on Conectors,Clean, WD40,And Snap Tight..(till the Next time)  The White Wires on Mine Seem espescaly Crap??.

SO IF No Power Try:New Bulb..Conectors,Switch......

Good Luck... But I bet 50p its Pulled conectors if all e;se is Ok.

 Hope this Helps...Craig

I think I had to replace a magic box under the rear seat of mine several years ago. Seem to recall all was then perfect.

Assuming you've tried all other checks, give Hitchcocks a ring and see if they have such a thing. About an inch and a half square, black plastic and easy to fit.

Good luck, Chrtis

And don't forget that little headlamp relay thingy that goes under the seat. I've blown a couple of those and now carry a spare one.

Hello again Lessus.  OK ---straight question for you-----have you tried another bulb in that you have proven to be working ??  It's Mikes very first point. Untill you do this very basic thing all other checks are pointless really.  Simultaneously you will also be doing what Craig is saying.
