Early 500 twin, benifits of larger monobloc carb?

Have this early 500 Twin, albiet
with later 'tomahawk' cyl.heads.
Regardless, manifold is still
only 7/8" passage. Stock Amal
that came with it a 276/DU/1AT
thus 1" throat, that looks OK
Have read several times that
these 500 twins are 'under-
carbed'. Question is there any
benefit to installing a 1 1/16"
389/12 Monobloc, possibly from
a Interceptor, when the manifold
is resricted anyway. Incidentally,
what is the difference.between
375 376, and 389 Monoblocs? Also
have a sexy float extension too,
does anyone recall what thread the
the float end screws are ass they
need to be longer.
Thank you for any feedback, Gordon.

Gordon, I don't think there is any point with the rest of the engine as standard. The 500T has low compression pistons, small valves and a gentle camshaft along with conservative ignition timing. If you get more fuel in what will that lot do with it? A bigger carb can only be step 1 of a tuning programme and in my opinion if you change any of the other parameters you'll spoil a nice "soft" bike. Want to go faster? Get a different bike! The Meteor Minor (also a 500T) is quicker and the Sports version even faster! Just one advantage to a Monobloc (of the correct size!) and that is it is less leaky! I own a 700 Meteor (the big brother of the 500T) and I love it the way it is and have an Interceptor for fast...

Thanks, Mark! Just sent you a home Email
anyway. Actually several of those early
Brit. parallel were sweet before getting
breathed on. Had a iron head Truimph 3T,
a 5T, and a Norton Domi plunger, although
ytt to meet anyone who had a '49/'50 RE
twin, or a KH Ariel for that matter
