Could anyone tell me how many clutch plates a 1952 350 Bullet should have please? The parts list from our hosts say 3 friction plates but the workshop manual I have (which is 1949 - 1955) says 4. I haven't taken it apart yet, but if I find only 3 I may not know if there should be an extra one or not.

Pull the cover have a look see how many plates in there and have a look at them and decide what to do from there. These plates rarely wear that much, bikes don't do enough miles to wear them out usually

From memory my 51 bullet had three corked plates.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like there should be 3 if it's still got the standard clutch. I can feel it slipping on the kickstart so I'll have a look after I've finished replacing the exhaust and other bits I've taken off to work on the head. I don't want too many bits in pieces at the same time. They tend to go walkabout in my garage.

If the friction plates are the originals they are poke through cork ones. Don't throw them out as they can be re corked.

Before jumping in make sure the clutch is not over adjusted, this will cause it to slip

I haven't got a new plate to compare them with but it must be worn plates. They look intact but thin. The clutch was assembled correctly ie the dished plates were correct as per the manual. I made sure there was plenty of slack in the mechanism but I can see it slipping when kicking it over and the compression isn't that brilliant. New plates and springs ordered.
