I just removed the timing pinion on a motor, probably late thirties, early fourties and it has three evenly spaced keyways which I didn't realize till I had it in my hand. I assume the keyway to use will be the one with the timing marks 2 teeth to the right of it, any thoughts?

I haven`t a clue about what pinion or motor your talking about. The pinion may have 3 lives if it`s prone to wear at one spot when activated.

Jaffa I believe it is a WDC because the engine number starts with a C

Possibly a replacement Norm. I know our hosts sell such a thing to alter the valve timing to a more aggressive advance. Not sure how much would be gained without a greater overlap on the cams though.

Apparently it is factory Simon a bloke in Tas has just confirmed to me he has quite a number of them like it and he believes it needs to be set how I figured it should be, why the other keyways we will probably never know
