on my way home tonight after filling my 2000 350 bullet with petrol it started smoking badly .thiking it was runing rich on the pilot i weakened it and fitted a new plug . it ran fine but still smoked from the exuast stoped off at the ace cafe for a couple of hours when i went to start the bike would only run for a few minites and cut out the inlet tappet seems to be tighting itself even after ajustment .the smoke was a light grey colour aa bloke reckoned it was oil smoke and that it could be brokrn inlet valve spring the bike did lose compreshion recently but came back after id turned the engine over a few times on the kick start

I suggest draining the tank & refilling with petrol
It will not be the first time someone has accidentally topped up with diesel. The giveaway is white smoke.
Our low comp engines run reasonably happily though smokily on low grade fuel ie diesel.
And before anyone tells me different I am one who has accidentally run his Flash (7.25:1 comp) & a Box on a 4:1 diesel/petrol mix :(

Bryan could a point there, did you keep the receipt when you filled up at the service station? It seems coincidental that it started smoking after you filled the tank.
Go back and look at the bowser.

Simple things first. You haven't left the choke on? Stranger things have happened.

Or is it just a case of wet sumping, how far did you ride it before filling it, how far did you ride it after filling it, is the big end beginning to fail and the whitemetal is blocking the rocker blocks and preventing the scavenge pump to clear the sump, a bit of checking needs to be done and playing with the mixture screw isn't the answer
