I have a few quid from Christmas burning a hole in my pocket and was thinking of blowing it on the Boyer Bransen digital ignition kit, but before I do please can someone convince me its worth the money and makes all the difference to the way the bike will run, as to be quite honest Bertie runs pretty smoothly now and starts reasonably easily.

That's the way Bertie take a perfectly good bike and fix it until it breaks.

Well this is my point, I've only been let down by a condenser once so not convinced I need to change but so many people have said in the past how much of an improvement the Boyer is..

Keep your money in your pocket. I have owned a bullet for fifteen years and never had a problem with a points ignition.

Points ignition fault = simple fix. Boyer fault = major problem and expense

If it ain't broke why mend it?
Surely there are better ways to waste your money like on petrol, oil, tyres & other associated consumables

There is a discussion going on among Interceptor Owners at the moment. (And apparently North American Commando owners.) You'd think a big long stroke (93mm) twin would benefit from electronic ignition but quite a few guys are starting to question this. The upside is exact firing intervals but the downside is very erratic starting and kickbacks. (There seems to be an issue with the Boyer system needing to be "cycled" to set itself.) Apparently some have asked Boyer to investigate but they aren't interested. Not strictly what you asked but an interesting sidelight? I'd say improve the points rather than replace, after all the original Lucas points system was actually very reliable, you just need to get the Indian bugs out! REgards, Mark

Interesting Mark, I have a Pazon ignition on my Inter and you could kick it for a week and you would never get it started, I have a Start Ya Bastard can mounted in the toolbox directed in to the manifold, little squirt and it will start first/second kick, well usually, no Start Ya Bastard she no startee

Although it hasn't been on the road for several years, I have a T150V Trident [32 years], which I fitted a Hyde 850 big bore kit to. I once fitted three new sets of points to it and it has always started within the first couple of kicks - even with a virtually flat battery, run smoothly and idled evenly. I had another T150V for a while, with B.B. electronic ignition fitted, this machine was no easier to start and ran no better than my long term one, which started up without too much fuss a few months ago after laying undisturbed for not far off 10 years. My Enfields all have points, except for the racers - there was once an occasion where our first 500 racer packed up going around the hairpin on the Cadwell mountain circuit, due to a tiny spec of something getting between the points while it was leaned over while leading a novice race and on the last lap to boot - that was reason enough to go for electronic ignition, but in exceptional circumstances !
