I'm sure somebody out there knows the answer.............for a fairly standard english 350 bullet...........what would be the correct 'tuned' length for a straight through exhaust pipe with no silencer fitted?

It is the best exhaust pipe volume you need to know for what engine characteristics you desire, and that is close to rocket science.

350 in standard trim? Well, I don't know the answer but I suspect it will make no difference at all.

Thanks papasmurf, I've had a look at your link and as you say a little bit too close to rocket science. (Werner von Braun I salute you). However, it did have a critical sentence in it: ''If a silencer is used, expansion will take place at this point, so the start of the chamber should occur at a 'tuned' tailpipe length.......''.
I.E. (as I read it) Take the silencer off and the down-pipe outlet is already at the tuned length...........and I think Tony Wilson-Jones knew what he was doing!?
Regards, John.

It`s usually the two-stroke engines which need careful exhaust pipe tuning, as they depend on back pressure for timed exhaust extraction and inlet feed. Take the muffler off a two-stroke and it will barely run, if at all. Isn`t it illegal to remove the muffler from vehicles? You could also put the neighbours off-side and damage your hearing. Besides, I don`t think it will make any noticable difference to performance. A lot of fiddling about for nothing.
