Hi there,
Due to oil leakage from the kickstart shaft I have to change the o ring in the end cover. To remove the gearbox end cover is it necessary to disconnect the clutch cable (how/where best), or can I push/pull the end cover with the clutch cable in place??? Would appreciate your help and/or hints where to find a procedure for this "o ring Job".
Regards, Peter

Just looked in my manual for my Sixty5, and it looks like the clutch operating mechanism is fixed to the end cover, so you shouldn't have to diconnect the cable. The oil will drain though when you remove the cover, so do it with the drain plug first.

disconnect no, but you will have to loosen it to take the tension of.

take kickstart and gear leaver of.

undo screws nr5 is al thats needed if you don’t remove the cable.

if you won’t to remove the cable you will have to undo screw nr 10 also to disconnect the cable.

some times the pins nr3 are a tight fit, you’ll have to lever the cover a bit.

preferably with something wooden or plastic(wedge).

try to avoid using screwdriver and hamer.

have a new gasket in reserve in case to old one is worn or damaged when dismantling.

when reassembling the pins go back in first then the cover.

As Mauri says the pins are the problem. The cover will have to come off straight until the pins disengage. You won't be able to tap the cover in a rotational movement to break the gasket seal. Working from the other side of the bike you can just about get enough purchase with a piece of wood on the ridge on the top of the cover to tap it enough to release the gasket seal. The gasket will be destroyed so have a spare. The original O rings are a sloppy fit in the cover recesses. Better fitting ones can be obtained from plumbing supplies. They seem to have stood the test of time.

Don't forget to get the gasket (or thick enough paper) in case you ruin the old one.
