Does my VIN # indicate the factory color? My 2002 Indian Bullet 500 KS 4spd is a factory "greenish gray" color with "goldish" pin striping. I've added some non factory accessories to it that really need to blend. Problem is, I cant seem to match the color(even close). It's bound to be athene gray or velvet green, right? Could I narrow it down by production date?

If it is anything like my old military bullet, then the paint consists of a rough guess of the amounts to mix on the day, probably including whatever was being thrown out of the kitchen from the day before.

My emails to the factory asking for the paint number or shade have never been answered or even acknowledged as yet.

Actually, by 2002, they may have even gone for a standard colour. If they have used a standard then it is most likely BS 381C, but have renamed it as an indian standard IS 5 2007. My only possibly helpful suggestion is to see if it matches any of the BS 381 and BS "other colours" chart by clicking on the link below, and going to the 381C and other colours combined chart. Screen and printers are not always accurate at colour reproduction, but you may get an idea from the chart with luck.

You may find it is Athena Grey.

Look at the menu on the left, click on Accessory Shop, then Tools & Sealants then Paints

Hit the wrong button! When I had a similar problem I emailed a good photo of part of my bike to Hitchcocks, the answer was almost immediate - Athena Grey

It may well be Athena Grey, and hopefully, RE may have used a good supply for most of their bike colours.

I only know that when you look at the military Enfields, wether home market for the army or the import ones here, they vary in green tremendously. I did order a can of olive green, but it was much too light for Tornado (1994).

I think that grey colour is very attractive, and makes for a nice bullet.

Thanks guys, I'm almost certain now that Athena gray it is, which is great except, I'm in the U.S. & it can't be shipped here so, the hunt for a local knowledgeable/decent paint man begins. Thanks Again ya'll, R.Tillery

So you're in US.

OK there are a couple of guys in the Ohio Valley BSAOC that deal in Enfields but beggared if I can remember their names got an idea they may be up around Erie, so may I suggest you try this website & locate dealers in your state or county & ask the question about paint availability

Thanks B z B, There is a local dealer 30 miles away but "We only handle the late model stuff" is a common response, even from the Dallas, Tx. dealer. cant imagine what 1/2 pint is gonna cost me to have mixed.
