Checking throttle cable assembly

Hi all
Please, some advice...when assembling the throttle slide on my 500 Classic (Mikcarb), it seems that I can't get the cable to locate centrally, as the nipple just pulls through the plate that sits between the slide and the spring. I have to feed the cable down and then run it through a slot in the slide that locates the cable towards the front of the slide. Surely this can't be right...or can it? Seems to me that this would introduce a bend in the cable just where you don't want one. At the very least you would get an asymmetric pull. Have I made some terrible error?

Cheers

Hi TIM G ---------- No mistake, that's how they go. Then that pressed-steel plate drops around the cable with the spring compressing the assembly together. Loony-toons or what ?? Had me going a few times at first as well----- we've been used to good-old common-sense Amal "through-the-centre" slides for too long, haven't we ?? NOW----would you like the name of a good THERAPIST ?

Hi AlanR...wow. That is seriously weird. Oh well, thanks for the reassurance, now I'll have to look somewhere else for the dodgy throttle return problem that's still plaguing me (or rather my Classic). As for the therapist, I saw one last night, but only for the frozen shoulder :-)

Cheers
