Took these today after loosening the nuts. The back might have a slow puncture and was very down on arrival back in France, so I thought I'd better check that valve thing. The front looked perfectly upright, but the suspect back looked like this. Is this still ok, or are we heading into danger???

Both photos are the back wheel, just slightly different angles

Oh look! My 'new' Woodsman has got more rust on him.

Looks like a touch of tyre creep due to under inflation..
New tube i reckon, don't mess around with it, check under the rim tape for spoke protrusion.

A drop of silver paint and rust killer if required.. gwilly

bugger! at least my extensive kit has a spare inner tube.

Will be a first for me, never had a tyre off before!

Should I just move the tube back if there no sign of cracks or stress, or just change it?

I guess I don't want to balance my safety (and Thunderbolt's) against saving a few pennies, but only have the one spare inner tube here.

Oh sod it, I think it has a slow puncture, so maybe it's the valve/rubber join, trying to give me a warning. OK, will have to search the posts for 'tyre change' !

OH CHRIST I"D FORGOTTEN!

My first and only really stupid mistake with my new bullet was to select gear and start off with the chain still through the back wheel. Had a couple of slightly bent spokes.

I straightened them in situ, but they rang a little loose so tightened them until they rang like the rest. I guess they had stretched, and may well now be protruding into the tape?

Buggerington!

Still, I can always shorten them.

OF COURSE, without the advice of the guys here, I would never have known to check! Thanks guys!

If Thunderbolt was standing around for a few years before you bought him you might want to give the tyres a close examination for cracks while you are at it, I also use those nice shiny valve caps but I always put a smear of grease on the thread before fitting them as they can become seized and very difficult to remove if left for a long time

Thanks, but I had new tyres out on, and the fitted ones looked sad.

Maybe a little grease under the tyre valve caps would be a good idea!

Thanks Les

P.S. did you stick with the name 'Ammo'? It just that your Bullet is silver, and 'the silver bullet' and ammo, etc.! YAY!

Yes I have stuck with Ammo but I have not put his name on the bike shed door, as things are in the world now it might be taken the wrong way

Hmm! Didn't think of that!

No, should be ok, once the neighbours understand.
