Hey group
The decompression wire has broken and by attempting to remove it i think i did something stupid, on the cylinder head, on the opposite side of the spark plug I took the cotter pin out and disconnected the valve, am i running the risk for the valve to fall into the engine, i can still see the valves head but cannot pull it out?
What shall i do?? Shall i unscrew the large nut located on the cylinder head around the valve??

Many thanks

A magnet may pull it up.

The decompresser is the same size as the plug if you have to remove it.

A lesson learnt the hard way. :)

Get that split pin back in asap! Been there done that, only the valve fell into the cylinder when I did it. Top end strip to remove! Couldnt fish it out. The best way to remove the complete decomp is to disconnect the cable at the handlebar end and slide a ring or box spanner down the cable to unscrew the thing complete. THEN remove the split pin! You won't pull the valve out fron the top because the head is bigger than the bore of the body!

BTW, the "large nut" IS the decompressor body, you have to remove it complete to strip it. Take note how the ring and adjuster go together, mine was assembled wrongly when I bought the bike, by arevious owner. I finished up looking on Ebay for sellers of decompressors, so I could see how it should assemble, from the photos on their web sites.

I removed that large nut also the spark plug and fished out the valve with a telescopic pencil magnet.
