I fitted this one, from Hitchcocks.. works for me. And I've had a few good long rides on it. Of course, I have nothing else to compare it with but I prefer it to the double seat that Thumper came with. It's very comfortable, as far as I'm concerned.

Is this the same seat as you have fitted?

Exile: yes is same seat, springs under the top cover, spanning out from the front, was hoping others had tested other solo seats and could give some comments ?

Cheers

I have fitted a single seat from the latest (well 2013) Enfield Bullet Classic. More comfortable then the 'new' old style in Exile's photo. If you do want one like Exile's slip an extra layer of dense foam between the cover and springs - eventually it will mould to your bum shape after a few hundered miles - otherwise buy a new model single seat.

I had one that looks like Exile's. I am tall so have to sit back a bit and there is a bar across the back which is very uncomfortable if you have to sit on it. I tried the large leather pan style too. That was comfy but despite trying different springs it fouled the rear mudguard on a bumpy road. I settled on the scrambles seat in the end and I find it comfy. It is a little longer but you can still fit the small rack that fits above the mudguard. All came from Hitchcocks.

Hi I have just bought this seat + small rack from our hosts for my Electra X.
Looks really good and good quality.
very please so far apart from it not being as comfortable as the double seat.
May have to add extra padding time will tell.

Graham: did the padded trick when i got the seat the other year, but like Edward i must be sitting over the rear of the seat, am going try out some differend type of padding between springs and seat top cover, but thanks for your input all's helpful

I considered a solo seat a couple of years or so ago, mainly to give my dodgy back an easier time. I had a 2003 Classic and the original seat was very firm, in the end I fitted a softer dual seat very similar to a Sixty Five that helped a bit, but the best mod was to fit Hitchcocks rear springs as well as there fork springs and 5 weight fork oil, quite a soft ride but it made Shilpa a much nicer machine. I have done the fork mod to the Electra X that I have and that is better for it, plus you have the room to stretch out a bit with your rear end if you want, hope this helps, it worked for me

Edward, I have been thinking about the pan style seat also. The single one i have on at mo is an indian copy of the uce classic one but I have rigidly mounted it. I wonder if the pan one could be mounted solidly too, and probably gain a bit more leg room? Do you still have yours, and what colour is it, please?

Nettshubby, I do still have the large American pan saddle. It is black in colour.
