Chaps
Further to my recent post, does anyone have any experience of retro-fitting a half width rear hub to an Indian Enfield Bullet (1996, in my case) using the QD spindle, etc and - if so - any hints, tips, tricks, pitfalls (apart from having rubbish brakes).
Thanks in advance.

Johnny, no idea, but I would expect it to turn quite ugly because the original half width hubs had all sorts of spacers and distance pieces. Can be done but a lot of careful measuring will be needed

Yes, Norm.
I've already worked out that I'd need to make a centre distance piece (basically the original spindle, chopped off where the bearings mount, with an O/D that fits snugly into the gap between the bearings in the hub, with a centre hole that allows the QD spindle to slide through.
Then, I'm guessing, I'd need to make a spacer to distance the inner race of the left hand bearing from the brake plate (but I'm just guessing).
Any other thoughts, chaps?

Actually, thinking about it, I don't want the centre spacer to fit snugly to anything other than the inner races of the bearings, do I?

Yep done it on the bitsa and it looks lovely. I made a new axle though rather than using the old one. The are a mountain of shagging around to set up and you can see why the QD was such a breakthrough but it does look smart especially with the lovely big cadmium plated nuts I made to tighten it all up. I can take a pic if you like?

A picture (or two) would be really helpful, if you don't mind Simon.

Damn this lack of an edit feature
I should have said that I'm not fully sold on keeping the QD set up, so a picture (or two) would be really helpful, Simon.

The center spacer is exactly that a spacer to keep the inner races of the bearing in exactly the same position they are in now without side loading them when you tighten the axle up, after you have fitted the other 15 spacers

I'll grab a pic or two this evening and post them. Yes Norm is right the important thing is to have no side loading on the bearings as they strip out the hub. the other spacers are to hold the brake plate away from the hub and on the other side to locate and secure the speedo drive.
