"£*%$ EFI Bullets must be the most frustrating things on the face of the earth. I've ridden bikes for over 50 years, I've built, repaired and fettled bikes without any problems diagnosing and fixing faults. Now my EFI has started to make a noise that I can't identify. Sometimes I think it's blowing from somewhere but I can't find anything. Sometimes I think it's a mechanical noise, and sometimes I think there's an air leak somewhere but (again) I can't find it.
Air leak is favourite at the mo as I'm starting to get some spitting and back popping on overrun. Perversely this seems to be coming from the left side of the bike.
I've followed the rubbers through from the air filter and they seem to be sound although I haven't taken them off to look.
Getting a bit annoyed.

Try squirting some WD40 onto the rubbers while the engine is running. If there is a leak and it's sucking air there will be some smoke in the exhaust as the WD 40 burns.

Jim if you have just come to realize that Bullets are the most frustrating thing you have ridden in 50 years consider yourself extremely lucky just having a popping/wheezing problem, think of all the poor souls that bought new Cast Irons and Electras that had complete motor failures just out of warranty. If it is getting to you at this early stage, get it sorted and sell it

My Efi woodsman pops on the overrun it is part of the experience. My classic does not. I love both bikes notwithstanding the sprag and neutral sensor failed on the new EFI, and the classic has produced numerous niggles. I will not sell them I will not sell them I keep saying. If I did, I would buy a Hinckley Bonnie, and I would then sell it to buy an Enfield. Persevere dont listen to Norm!

check head to exhaust pipe joint for air leaking, can produce a strange high frequency ping like metal knocking on a cover. No idea why, but mine did it.

Bathroom sealant is the best but leave to cure overnight without running.
