Evening folks, I've just fitted Tinker with electronic ignition,and owing to a gammy leg haven't tried starting her yet. I set the new back plate pretty well on the half way mark on the adjuster slots,which approximates to where the old points cam follower was. Am I right in assuming this will be near enough to start her? I shall have a go at dynamic timing once she is running, unless the forum thinks trial and error will suffice. It's the basic Eureka system by the way.

Hi Wilf.. I'm considering doing the same on my Bullet 500. I haven't made the final decision yet..
Regarding set up, see the tech notes on this forum. It explains how to set the timing marks up and so on.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. The gammy leg felt good enough to try kick starting Tinker this evening so I gave it a go. She fired up after about four tries and ran OK except for a bit of popping in the exhaust when I came off the throttle. I tossed a coin and decided to advance the timing a tad, which seems to have sorted things. She now starts first or second kick (still a bit tentative with the leg!) and after a short run of a mile or so seems to be running very sweetly. I pulled away from walking pace in third gear with no sign of pinking and raced her a bit in second with no I'll effects. So-----
Working on the principal of if it ain't broke, don't try and fix it, should I go to the trouble of dynamic timing?
All comments would be most welcome.

You might find a better timing position, but if she runs as well as you think she should, then I wouldn't Tinker (sorry, just had too!)
