Has anyone successfully shortened a timing chain? I have a new 90 pitch one here, but I need an 88 pitch one, Removing links isn't a problem, it's the reliable re-joining of the ends. Is there a rivet kit for doing this, or is it better just to relace it with another new one the correct length??

Zippy, double row or single? does MrH have a joiner link available, I got one years ago for a double row and it isn't a problem. If you can get a pin out without damaging it I would refit the pin and give it a slight hit in the center of the pin with a center punch, just to spread the ends slightly

Hi Norm. It's a double - I've had to drop from 25T to 20T to get useable gearing ( It's a trail bike) Havent seen a joint link on the site - all the chains seem endless...I'll have a good look at the chain in daylight, if I get the chance tmoz.

Zippy, not sure why you would want to alter the timing chain because of the gearing

Timing chain??? I meant primary chain. I'm a bit distracted at the moment, too many jobs on at the same time.

You can definitely get split links for duplex. I have one that I'm about to fit with a new chain. I've had chain fail but never on the split link and as long as you put the clip on the right way round they are as safe as a safe thing.

Hi Simon. Did you get it from this site? If you have the part number - that would be great!

Thanks - Missed that when skimming through. Alot cheaper than replacing the chain. Also it should ease maintainance, as I dont have to remove the clutch to change the engine sprocket and vice versa. Hopefully my concentration will come back soon :/
