Thats good news but I'm not really surprised. I've always thought it was basically just fish oil and pretty harmless. Against all advice by "experts" (where an EX is a has-been and a SPURT a drip under pressure!)I've been using it to lube my trusty old Weihrauch 77 for over 25 years, have never yet changed a single seal and it still drops a tree-rat or rabbit at 50 yds. Surely an O ring or somesuch that is under no real pressure is quite safe and of course the rust protection is super.

Off topic for this forum WD40 should NEVER be used on a firearm with a wooden butt as the WD rots the timber with possible deadly consequences.(I used to work for a firearms dealer.)

I've always thought WD40 was a silicone based lubricant and therefore safe on rubber as opposed to petroleum based greases which rot rubber.

It`s more of a penetrating oil-water disperser. As most know by now; it took the makers 40 attempts to get the formula (for a water disperser. W D) right. Because of this action of evaporating moisture and drying out, it is not suitable for lubrication.

Frank: according to the tin, WD40 does not contain any silicones, and never has. No fish oil, either.

They do sell a silicone spray, and many other lube and cleaning sprays and liquids, besides the Water Dispersants.
