i was disappointed to find there is no owners club near me, i live between northampton and kettering and could really use some help with my 93 500 bullet that is not charging its battery.
i have been able to sort every previous problem myself ( and there has been a few ) but i really need a definative diagnosis from someone who knows their volt meter before i invest in a new alternator or regulator. i dont think im getting power from my alternator but not sure enough to put the blame there.
anyone in the northampton area that wouldnt mind having a look sometime ?, i can ride it with a charged battery. or a bike mechanic / dealer who knows his Enfields ? thanks guys

Do you have a multimeter?

I am in Earls Barton, however, I know little about testing an alternator for out put. I would suggest you Google, asking that question, printing off and data you receive, and as previously mentioned, get a voltage meter.

As said, get a multimeter then come back and we can walk you through the process

As a last resort, check if the key securing the rotor to the shaft has not sheared, although if the rotor nut is tight enough it should not stop the alternator charging. This happens on engines prone to the kick-back/ backfiring
which destroys sprag clutches.

Leon all these motors will kick back it is just when they are fitted with a sprag that you notice it

Norm: My bike is kick-start only, so it`s my leg which notices it; I say as I limp away.

Leon better your leg than a primary case full of busted, expensive sprag bits lol

Easier to replace a sprag than a knee joint Norm.
