Hi...I need some lateral Advice!
I have a 2003 500 indian bullet, which was motoring more or less fine, until i parked it up for winter.
Tried to get it going few weeks ago and no spark, the ammeter deflected to the left all the time ignition was switched on.
The Battery is perfect and always trickle charged. All other lights etc work.
I had a new Boyer ignition n coil unit Mk 4, and decided was good time to fit it. Fitted it all and still no spark!! ((
Anyone any ideas? ? I tried an older spark plug i had...and no spark either.

If the ammeter was deflected all the time, then there is another problem. As you know the points closed gives a deflection and should cut when they opened.

If you have fitted the electronic ignition now, that should have bowled out the snag. I guess you have checked the plug and that there isn't a permanent short causing the ammeter deflation.

Permanent meter deflection would seem to indicate Boyer is not functional.

Would it not be worth trying putting good old fashioned points back in, as a means of elimination?

Hi Neil. It could be the CB wire is shorting to ground somewhere although with the Boyer you have had to fit a new sensor cable. Try a process of elimination. Wire the battery straight to the SW terminal on the coil and then run a wire from the CB terminal (Disconnect the the normal points wire) and then flash this wire to ground. Even though you will have no capacitor in circuit , you should still have some sparks appear at the plug gap. If not then the HT lead could be faulty (Unusual) You have swapped coils already but also try the original. As you have swapped 2 items together (Ignition unit and new coil) then this complicates the elimination process.

I've had similar issues and found the problem At the 4 point connector under the ignition key the brown wire in particular it still looked connected but the wiggle test showed fault a 23wat 12 volt bulb with test wires will point it out (check out my living hell under boyer brandsen on this forum)

Only the coil, HT lead or the plug itself which could be faulty. It would have been better to find and correct the original fault before fitting the Boyer, as there are now other things that can complicate the process of elimination but still, hindsight is a wonderful thing! Neil says it was 'more or less fine' before laying up so maybe some clues lie there.

The needle deflected both with the Points and boyer system.
I took Duckie advice and checked the ignition connections, i found connection slightly corroded and cleaned it up...Presto she fired up on me!
) I'll keep the boyer in for the moment, if it gives heart ache...then i'll go back to points!
