dear all,
have started to get a bad intermitant missfire on my electra EFI, this started with an ocasional half second power loss with the engine warning lamp on for a couple of seconds, then all fine again for the next 50 to 100 miles. The missfire now occures every few minutes at anything over 55mph,
have checked the wiring and removed the side stand switch to no avial. the ECU is giving me 2 fault indications fuel pump circuit and crank position circuit, not sure witch way to go with this fault.
Is it possible to clear the ECU fault list, so the next missfire should register the correct fault.
regards.

Not sure I can answer your question, but is your fuel pump cutting out?

I've looked in the manual for the export EFi bikes and there in no mention of how to reset the error codes. Maybe you can't, and it will only reset it when it is happy the sensors are OK?

Try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins or so that is how I have cleared the ecu memory on other f.i bikes

thanks for the input, I disconnected the battery for 24 hours, no change in error codes, I dont think the missfire is caused by the fuel pump, as it is an on/off type fault, ie the engine works perfectly then cuts out then works again. will take the bike for another test run

Are you getting a constant power supply to your fuel pump? When it cuts out, does the mil lamp come on or flash there and then? How do you get things going again? More info needed :)

with the engine running normaly, plodding down the road, the engine cut out for perhaps half a second or more, then recover and the mil lamp will come on for about 2 or 3 seconds. this seamed to stop when I got back to town ie slowed to 30 to 40 mph. By the way the last mil error displayed is the crank position fault, this should be the more recent fault. am starting to think I should order a new one from our hosts

The cutting out for a second or so is the same symptom as my bike... see the 'earths' thread on here... sounds like you may have a sensor problem, but I reckon you may also have a relay switching problem too. Check wiring to the 3 relays, two in left hand spectacle case above pillion footrest, and one under the seat above the battery positive post. Are you sure it is only speed related? IE perhaps vibrtion related, or braking? Do that check before you spend money :)

And whilst you are at that, pop the headlamp off and check your wiring behind that for any loose, melted(?!) or rusty wiring...
