Evening all, If i am going on a long ride I always cover my seat with a sheep skin I picked up in a leather shop, keeps me comfy and helps to stop those more personal areas from sweating on hot days, talking to a long term biker the other day who had never heard of this before, I thought it was common knowledge, obviously not, does anyone else out here use something similar/ do you cover your seat and what with ?

Yes, they are comfortable but vunerable to thieves. A group of us went to the cinema one night and when we came out the sheep skin cover on a BSA was gone.

Kiwi ones are pretty well known. I have a sheep skin that I use on longer journeys. It's one I bought secondhand that had been used in a bassinet so it keeps the baby soft bits of me in good nick. I'm quite keen to get hold of a gel seat cover for the really long journeys as even a sheepskin gets a bit unforgiving after 400 miles.

Funnily enough after riding the Electra for over an hour the other day i was struck by how uncomfortable the seat was. Anybody know what the best way is to rectify this. Ie. If a gel seat where do you get it recovered etc??

Talking of seats, I have been looking at a well known auction site and one guy has fitted a hinckley bonneville seat. I think I will try the same if I can find one at the right price

I find the dual seat on my Electra reasonable(so far max 2 hours in the saddle). However, I would love to find a comfy single seat. I'm not having much luck as I tried the hosts version and eventually returned it because it was too hard and small (for me anyway). Anyone found any alternative single seats?

Spent over 4 hours in the saddle on the Electra. Forget performance upgrades. I'm going to find a comfier seat and fit a luggage rack!! Not till next year now (new kitchen in the pipeline). Will post when I do!!

The Airhawk is very popular with long distance riders, especially with 'Iron Butt' competitors. I have used one for years and they do work.

Airhawk are excellent - I used one on a DRZ400 trip around the coast of mainland UK. However I can recommend a Honda FT500 or any of those type - I fitted one to me C11G for John o'Groats to Lands End and back, kept all by bits from getting sore. Another way I have used is to have one made - I have had three made to my spec and advice from Preston Car Trim & Bootleg Bike Seats 01772 251212 I am not connected to them just a very happy customer. I had the Electra X seat re filled with more comfortable foam, also has advantage not being nickable. Sheep skin covers and Airhawk need to be removed when you park up.
