Is this while riding / engine running? Many gearboxes won't travel through all gears with engine stopped.

Most usually a problem with the inner or outer ratchet, sometimes they are a mongrel to fix and fitting new parts is not always the answer. I often have to adjust the teeth on the inner ratchet and that can take hours of welding and grinding

Hi Tom.What was the problem which required you to fit the new parts in the first place?

Hmmmm,Sounds like you may not be getting the full amount of movement required.Have you tried adjusting the stop plate.I ask this because I've just adjusted mine today. It would often not go all the way into first gear which is embarrassing when you pull out onto traffic and it drops into neutral.I've just been out to test it and all seems well.
If the problem is the same or similar with both the old and the new parts then are we looking at clutch or maybe selector fork problems.I don't know why mine started giving trouble but it started after an unsympathetic friend borrowed it for a couple of weeks ( He aint used to old fashioned bikes)Chain tension, both primary and secondary can effect gear changing but that's probably clutching at straws. As a matter of interest, were the parts you replaced badly worn? Oh and is your grease level correct (more straws)
When you do find the problem please let us know what it was!!
Best of luck,Dave P.

Hi Dave.....I'll take a proper look once it stops raining!..
Clutch seems to be fine.... I will try selecting all gears with the motor running first ... Back wheel is well off of the ground.....
As I said it selects N-1-2-N-1-N fine..... Thats revolving rear wheel by hand and selecting gears.. It just wont go into 3rd and obviously not 4th.. But all gears select OK via Neutral selector!
Cheers
Tom

You have probably read them already but just in case you missed them there are some excellent Tips & notes on the Albion Gearbox rebuild in the technical notes on left Parts One to Five.
