Removing the distributor gear

I want to "tool up" in advance of my engine overhaul (Sixty5) and have got most things I expect to need (oil pump lapping tool, timing pinion extractor, worm nut spanner, etc). I want to remove the distributor before putting the cases in the oven (need to change the distributor seal anyway) and am wondering how neccessary is our host's distributor gear puller. Is there room behind the gear for the jaws of of a normal (small) two-leg puller? Or will some gentle leverage and a tap on the shaft do the trick? How have others managed this?
Thanks!

Barry,
With the nut on loose with a small 2 jaw puller, tighten it up pretty tight the a gentle tap on the end of the puller and it will pop off
