Hi all, has anyone done this, is it worth the effort and cost of the new coil ? Cheers

Hi Bertie - our two racers have twin plugs, also one road bike [formerly our first 500 racer]. My observations, for what they may be worth are that you might find starting could turn out to be more difficult - this is certainly the case with the self generating crank mounted system, due to the cranking speed of the kickstart and the requirement of two sparks at this low turning speed. Another is that once, on a dyno test of the 500, I disconnected one spark plug straight after recording 42.5 BHP [about the best we had back then] and ran it again, to see a loss of about 0.2 BHP and the line on the graph was a little more ragged.
The best application I have for twin plugs is on the ex race machine, which is now my Father's café racer. Because it could be difficult to spin fast enough by the kickstart to make the self generating ignition start it, I decided to fit an SR1 Lucas magneto, locked on full retard by using a solid timing gear and purely for starting duties. The machine now starts first or second kick and the electronic ignition being more advanced takes over as soon as the engine fires up.
