Hi there. I have a standard 500 Bullet from 2002 which runs perfectly on the Mikcarb. Can anyone tell me the benefits, if any, of changing to a Monobloc carb? I would be changing purely for cosmetic reasons to make it look more vintage.

Wallace, this time yesterday I would have said forget it. After this afternoons ride though I've found a marked improvement to pickup and midrange. I'm still not there yet with the setup, maybe someone who has one sorted will advise.

Ahhhhh !! Wallace, me lad----This is a scenario that a great many of us "Classic" Enfield owners will recognise / remember with great fondness and a glistening  tear in our collective eye. Right now young chap, you are standing on the edge of ----THE ABYSS----and just peering innocently in. Once you take that first step of "just improving things---mainly for looks" then that ever-present, though subliminal drug will have you in it's talons -----without mercy----for the rest of your Enfield days. One improvement will not satisfy that itch, that craving,  to go yet one more stage further---- to make YOUR bike become INDIVIDUAL and stand out from the rest.    By day I'm a High Court judge at the Old Bailey but by night,-------- when the workshop warms up and a pint is beside me then I become-------ENFIELD MODIFYING MAN !!!! Now go, look at the night sky---- that's not B for Batman, it's E for ENFIELDMAN---the ends got blurred over, just like the owners. Matey---welcome aboard. Others better qualled. than me will guide you. It was just like a blast from the past  to read your posting. Now look--- I'm in tears. You've just made an old man very happy. (sob)

Would have thought that a carb. change would be further down the list on mods. to a standard machine.

Yeah as Chris says there are definite performance gains, and the carb is more accessible for tuning etc. You can get to all the jets and float chamber with the carb still on the bike, you only need to remove the carb if you want to play with the slide and/or needle.

Alan R Is that for real, do we have a genuine Judge on here? You could well be in demand when people want to know about the legality of various modifications ;-)

hi walace,if your bike is running fine with the mikarb why fiddle?the amal monoblock is a good carb but i highly doubt that it is the saviour of all enfield ,remember its design is over 50 year old ,mikarb copy of mikuni should be a better instrument just depends if anything got lost in translation, everybody moans about the rubber manifold but these are standard practice on modern bikes ,i have the mikarb on my 350 bullet and it does its job so i won,t be spending a fortune on a monoblock ,i remember tuning bikes spending a fortune for no massive gain ,want more power buy a bigger bike ,nothing can improve lack of cubes thats cc,s ,

There is nothing wrong with the mikcarb and if you bike is running perfectly well on it , why not leave  it as it is. If its speed and performance that you are after buy a modern bike.  This is only my opinion.

I converted my 2007 535 to Amal Monoböock, because I hated the Micarb. Got rid of the tea caddy and fitted the trumpet gaused covered air intake. Also added the plastic shroud to cover up the electrics. End result was great looks, easier to tune. Clear choke operation. The standard jets supplied were on the small side and I went from a 240 to 280 main jet. Only problem now is I sold the bike and bought an EFI, but the overall appearance of the bike is so good I never worry about the lack of an Amal.
