Hi Bullet Whisperer
A couple of years back you mentioned you’d fitted slightly longer shocks to your green-laner and had to fit a chain tensioner because the extra shock length meant the chain ran slacker.
I wish to replace my 30cm OEM shocks (bad damping) on my 1996 535 Bullet with a pair of 32cm gas-cartridge shocks I acquired from a friend (from a Bullet). As you found, the need for extra chain is one of the two issues (the other being the rear brake rod bending over the footrest). When the new shocks are fitted, the chain slack is indeed 40mm greater than with the OEM shocks.
I'd appreciate knowing what tensioner you fitted and if it was successful?
Thanks
ChrisD

Hi Chris, my machine is a 1955 500 in greenlane trim. I bought the tensioner from Sammy Miller, it is a spring loaded slipper type and I fitted it using a modified front engine plate [cut down to shape and size], bolted to the rear of the gearbox. The tensioner blade sits just to the rear of the swingarm pivot point and my rear shocks are also 320mm long, it all works fine.
Here are some links to some pics, please feel free to view the whole album if anyone wants, there is nothing to hide! Regards, Paul.
