Ignition Trouble

Hi All,
I have been experiencing some ignition failures in my 1959 Connie recently. Actually only the left cylinder gives me the trouble. All too often when I kick start the motor only starts on the right cylinder. Needless to say I already bought new NGK BP6ES spark plugs. The carbs seem to be fine tuned.
The funny thing is when riding only one cylinder dispite the risk I hoist slightly the cable cap from the top of the spark plug and the cylinder starts working. If I keep holding the cap with a little gap to the top of the plug it goes ok. This is what puzzles me. If as I've told it was a matter of oil on cylinder top I suppose the ignition wouldnt start anyway.
Can anyone help me on this one?
Greeting from Lisboa.
