Hi all. I have just started the rebuild of my Electra x engine, and I have just noticed that the exhaust tappet is breaking up on the tip where the pushrod sits. I was wondering can you just knock the cam spindles out from the inside of the crankcase then tap it back in or do I need to have the special tool. The special tool is the only one I don't have.

Hi Davie, yes, if the crankcases are already split you can knock the spindles out with a suitable drift. Heating the casing might make them come out more easily.

Getting the cases nice and hot before removing it should also mean that you won't need on oversize spindle when you come to refit everything. Not sure they even list those for the Electra-X model. The special tool if for those not wanting to split the cases!

Regards.
Adrian
