Hi all, I am in the process of working out what I need to buy to rebuild my engine when the crank comes back. What I would like to know is, does the full gasket kit contain everything to put the engine together or is there anything else I need to buy... eg oil seals or gaskets outside the engine

Hi Davie. Hope the rebuild is going o.k. I think the full gasket set should contain all the gaskets you need. In addition, consider a new oil seal, and timing- and drive side crank seals. This should cover it, but perhaps I left something out?

Hi Davie , off top of my head you will also need the clutch oil seal that sits inside primary case behind clutch basket. I appreciate it's not "engine" gasket but you will need it.

Hi guys---------- and hello DAVIE..It's that old adage of spoiling the ship for a Ha'porth of tar !!------ in other words for a full engine re-build it would be prudent to change ALL OIL SEALS as well......As per VESPA 66}-- be very CAREFUL when fitting that seal behind the clutch basket.. It's easy to tear the fine lip and also it must be CENTRAL over the shaft..

Gearbox cover gasket.
You maybe able to reuse the old one - I didn't. Had to make one myself - well, actually two as the first one was too thin.

I'd recommend some REAL red hermetite too, it is still readily available on Fleabay for a fiver. Daughter and I recently had my Triumph in pieces and used the silicone gasket that everybody sells now (little more than bathroom/kitchen sealant)and it was shite, oil leaks all over the motor. Took her apart again and used proper old fashioned red hermetite and job done, not one single leak, even from the pushrod tubes (which is pretty impressive on a 50 odd year old trumpet).

Gearbox sprocket tab washer, Dowty drain plug and rocker feed washers, silicone for exhaust, rubber carb hose. Its also a good excuse to peruse the new catalogue and buy lots of 'essential' goodies!

Hey come on you lot, all I wanted to know do you get seals etc in the gasket set and here you are telling me go peruse the new catalogue and go on a spending spree, I can spend enough on the bikes without anyone prompting me. But don't worry you will all get to know when I am spending money on it , you will hear my other half shouting at me HOW MUCH . Cant wait to get it back on the road. People don't understand how much fun you can have on these things and I need another fix soon
