I have a 1994 350 Bullet acquired two years ago runs fine bit but a bit difficult to start and jumps out of second gear from time to time, I have put up with it until recently when I asked a local garage to fix it. To be fair I did say I was not in a hurry but it has been five weeks now and I am starting to get worried just how long should a job of this nature take?
I do understand that the answer may well depend upon differing factors but any comments will be appreciated.

Sorry to rain on your parade or pi$$ on your chips butI am afraid the problem likely comes from you saying you were in no hurry. When you say 'local garage' I take it you mean a non Enfield place. Starting difficulty is an easy fix, presumably it has points & coil ignition. The box can be completely stripped with the engine/gearbox in the frame, say a an hour. Examine parts, decide what if anything needs replacing, order replacements from Hitchcocks, rebuild and adjust if necessary. Say 2 hours, 3 with a tea break. Take out on road test. Notwithstanding the foregoing (what big words!) if the garage is a Hondyamuki place the "mechanics" will likely not have a clue with a 1920s transmission.

If it is jumping out of gear, try screwing the detent in one click or better still fit a new one

Agree with them a time frame - say two weeks, if the job is not done by then ask for your bike to be returned in exactly the same condition that it was when you gave it to them. Did you get or sign any paperwork when you handed the bike over?
Something's not right here.......in these difficult times I would expect a local garage to want to get the job done and paid for ASAP!
It may even be worth considering your legal position.
