Hoping to go down to Cost Brava next year in June on my 06 Electra. Has anyone have a good working regulator for sale or can report on our hosts upgrade one. I need to carry one as a spare. Bike running on a 19 tooth gearbox sprocket and gave me no problems last year touring up to Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland, 1,700 miles. Have had normal problems with catch oil unit filling up with mayonnaise but now using 15/40 diesel recomended oil and pipes and tank are keeping clean. Has anyone done the same.
Spoke to a Harley owner friend who told me that Harley states that only Harley oil be used and if not availible recomends that diesel type oil be used for top ups.
Perhaps they have the same problem with cool running.

Hello Dennis O --------------- My 1975 Honda GL Goldwing runs on 15/40 Diesel. Tesco's finest !! This is advised by the Goldwing "Guru" ie Randall Washington in the US of A. Check out }------------- http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid ... cycle+shak ------------ and ,just as a test-bed for the oil I used it in my 180 Honda CG125. Both are alive and well to day. He uses SHELL ROTELLA T which I can't find in the shops but Tesco's comes close on the various specs on the bottle. Good luck on that ride-out down South !!

Dennis,
Just so that you will never need them I now have fitted under my seat a new coil and a new TCI unit because these items are very hard to get when you are broken down and as long as you have these as spares you will never need them. I still haven't found an Electra pulse coil but I ride with my fingers crossed

Sorry guys(and TREVORCH)--------just can't resist going "off-piste" with this one but the mental image of NORM, disappearing into the sunset towards Ayres Rock, battling manfully with the Bullets' handlebars, all fingers crossed whilst the 'Roos scatch their heads and look on was too much to bear. OK, I'm gone >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

A lot of the old racing bikes got over the breather problem by venting into an old beer can strapped somewhere convenient. This stopped any oil getting on the track and could be emptied as and when needed. It had to be a good strong English ale though, no pansy lager brand!

Hello Peter F and Midge, Thanks for your advice on the catch can. At the moment the diesel type oil appears to be working and I check the system by pulling off the breather hose from the crankcase to find no signs of the mayonnaise building up in the pipe.If the system can be made to work and keep clear of the mayonnaise problem I will keep it in place.
Had a ride out to visit a friend and ended up in pouring rain and bitter cold conditions and when I checked the breather pipe when back home it was clean.
I plan to use the bike on short runs to test if the problem has been cured and will report back in a months time.
Still awaiting feedback from anyone who has converted the standard regulator to our hosts one. I have a original TDC unit when I fitted the later one so I plan to carry a spare regulator.
Just waiting for the weather to clear so to get out on the bike. In March I rode up to St Mary's loch in the Scottish borders in warm sunny conditions and thought the summer had arrived. How wrong I was.
Thanks everyone for your replies and a laugh.
Photo of my bike is in the photo gallery under Shetland and was taken when I arrived from Arran and going to catch the ferry to Isla then futher up to Shetland,19 ferries in all. Dennis O
