Not a lot to go on. Is your Clipper 12V? Did you order a three phase stator? Do you have wiring diagram? My first Enfield was a Clipper/Crusader circa 1963, though I never new for sure. Had to rewind the stator by hand in those days, pre-Hitchcock. If it is a three phase 12V, then 3 wires simply connect in any sequence to the rectifier, if not three phase then a little more thought needed. Do you have the original and working selenium rectifier?, how many connections?
Answers on a postcard please....

Hi, try white as green/white before and the other two cables to the rectifier-input. Should work perfectly.

Hi Mike This alternator has 6 coils. They are wired in series as a pair and a double pair with a common end connection which is = OLD GREEN WHITE = NEW WHITE. The other two wires compare as follows........OLD GREEN YELLOW = VIOLET(PURPLE)....OLD GREEN BLACK = GREEN...........As connie says you can connect the VIOLET and GREEN together, ESPECIALLY if you if you have changed to 12V electrics with ideally a regulator rather than a ZENER diode. If you want to keep the exact old wiring system, connect as described. As a double check, the old high output coils were presented on the GREEN YELLOW wire. If you want to check the new ALT wires use the WHITE as a common and do a resistance check of the the GREEN and YELLOW wires....the LOWEST OHM reading is on the HIGH O/P wire as it has two sets (pairs) of coils in parallel. The LOW output set will give a resistance of twice the high o/p wire. The resistance checks could also be used to compare each wire against the old Alternator too.

Just to make it clearer? ....6 COILS = 3 PAIRS (2 COILS IN SERIES).....ONE PAIR SET = LOW O/P ......TWO PAIR SET = HIGH O/P.

Hi thanks for your replys i rang Hitchcocks today were i got stator from, they told me Green goes to White/Green White goes to Yellow Purple goes to Green/Brown. Regards confused Mike!
