I have had a set of Super Meteor cases hydro blasted and it has removed the coating on the inside of the cases. How important is it and why did the factory have to resort to such measures in the first place

Don't Panic! Look at part no. 97506 in the accessory catalogue (the paints and sealants section) on this site. Some crank case castings turned out to be porous and the yellow paint used by Reditch solved this problem. The modern equivilant is red but no one will know as it will be on the inside. Ian

Thanks Ian but I think there is problems with posting paint, flamable goods or something like that, I'm just wondering how important it really is, but I guess it is a pain if this particular set decided to leak

Hey Norm.. I remember back in the days when I was an apprentice fitter, we painted the insides of industrial gear boxes with red lead oxide and sealed the joints and gaskets with Hermatite.

Don't know if you can get all that locally..??

Exile, I can check at the paint shop to see what he recomends, probably a 2 pak of some sort, but I was wondering if I should bother or not

Norm, that paint is a POR product and used widely in the car restoration world (several different colours,) so I'd be surprised if you can't get it in Aus. Only snag I found was that it comes in 500ml tins which is quite a lot. Fortunately I share it with another Enfield pal. By the way, it also works on gearboxes, I had a leaky box on an Inter and used this (as well as welding!) to seal it.

Thanks Mark, I can get the POR stuff here but as you say it is very expensive for just one set of cases and I don't plan on doing any more
