charging problem

When I start and ride my 1961 RE bullet 350cc bike 6volt system it shows a good charge on ammeter but when I switch on lights it shows a large discharge could someone give me an idea what would cause this even giving it a good rev doesnt make any diffference

But does the battery go flat? could be the way it is wired. Have you put a mulitmeter on the battery to see if it is charging?

This could be a short circuit. Wiring to rear lights is always a good suspect.

I imagine that the 61 Bullet has the switched rate charging system which engages extra coils on the alternator as you switch in extra load. It goes from trickle charge with no lights to low charge on side and tail to full with headlights on. It sounds like you've lost a circuit so probably need to check the connections at the switch.

Hi I checked all my connections and found a loose one on my rectifier made a better fit now things run perfect have similar problem on my BSA now have a good idea how to fix it Thanks all
