Hi all, just bought a 2001 500 bullet and there is no spark,i'm a bit new to these bikes but have spent today trying to trace the fault to no avail. When i switch on the ignition the ammeter needle moves slightly to the left, had the plug out and tried another one tried 2 other coils but they were old ones.previous owner told me he had replaced the points and condenser, they look ok.Anyone got any ideas?Cheers.

Ammeter movement is a good sign, shows life... I would strip out the points and reassemble and retime..

just check insulation washers etc.. Use a bulb and two wires across the points to check bulb lights when points open...

Ahhhh. Enfields. They're wonderful gadgets because they're so simple. Get the battery and wire one side directly to earth. Wire the other side directly to the switched side of the condenser (This circumvents the ignition switch, etc). If you don't have a spark then. Then it's down to the plug. Plug cap. Coil. Condenser or the contact breakers aren't actually closing.

Kill switch? that will get you every time. If not, with a test light , ignition on you should have power to one side of the coil and both side if the points are open. If only one side, rotate motor and when the points open light will come on. This proves the wires from ignition switch to points
