engine identification

1958 Royal Enfield Ensign , is this a Villiers engine trans unit or is this engine unit built by Royal Enfield, I have heard different stories.
Built by Royal Enfield, based on the pre-War DKW 98cc design. Not Villiers at all. RE did use Villiers 4T twin cylinder engines in the 1965-66 250cc Turbo Twin but that's all.
