Long shot but does anybody know if there is a difference between the inlet and exhaust cams?

Well according to the Online Parts Lists there is a difference for 1951 (the first book listed,) so I'd say it's pretty likely.

Hi Norm the parts list for 1949 gives the inlet cam as part number 32706 and the exhaust cam as part number 32705 so they are different.

I have just been comparing my 1949 parts list with the 1951 parts list on here and it looks very much as it the engine was unchanged.

Thanks Mark and Dennis, that sounds right because one has a slightly pointer profile, wasn't sure if somebody had ground it

Norm, the artist who did the original
pen and ink exploded drawing for the
designer interview of the motor in
'49 , clearly shows the INLET cam to
be pointed, and the EXHAUST one to be
rounded. If you can hold off a day or
two, can confirm that from the several
sets I may have kept, although all were
were badly pitted and could have been
discarded. Regardless, the lads were
right, the several parts books I have
list the 32705-32706 from '49 to '56

Be interesting to sport it up with a pair of exhaust cams to get the additional overlap. Mind you I've only read glowing reports of the 500 twin in standard form.

Thanks Gordon that was my thoughts but the motor got hot very quickly and somebody has put doubt in the owners mind telling him the pointy one should be the exhaust
