Whining

So... what would be the possible source of a whining noise from the top, front of my EFI? To give a bit of context, those of you who have heard an EFI starting will know about the fuel pump whine as it primes... well, the same-ish noise is coming from the top front end of my EFI when the bike is running - it doesn't sound like an engine noise at all. But it may be coming from there.

Possible sources - note these are my thoughts, none are actually obserede to be happening, just wondering if a whiney noise might come from these problems: leaking exhaust at the join between downpipe and head, slight leak of gas from head gasket, regulator/rectifier giving out, ignition coil dying?

Again, those of you with an EFI or that know the EFI layout will know where these bits are roughly located on the frame, so may know other sources of possible whines... Any advice on where to focus would be great. Its very annoying!

Is it a consistent whine, as in bearings under load and not liking it, or something rubbing on disc, mudguard, wheel?

Constant whining, when stationary too but with engine running. Dont think its bearings as I swear it changes pitch with various electrical loads on or off...

I don't know the EFI at all but from the pictures it looks as if the regulator/rectifier is bolted to the top of the frame in then air flow behind the forks. Can you use a screwdriver as a stethoscope on it to see if it's the source? Perhaps briefly cover it with a hand to see if the noise is deadened? If it is the source perhaps it's being driven too hard, is the battery OK and charging working? Measure the battery voltage at both with the engine off and running/charging.

Bloody cheek, aussie bikes whine too, like a Sheila, until you give them a good slap around the barrel with the back of your hand!

That can stop a lot of whining.
