This afternoon I went to start a Briggs and S. motor that I know hasn't run for 5 years.
When I noticed that the tank had been left half full I nearly set about draining it down there and then, but just had a couple of pulls first.
Started third pull on the starter and ran quite well (though it did run a bit better on some new stuff when I filled up)
Yes, OK, a very low comp. motor but I was still surprised.

You wouldn't credit it would you,, Nah! that'll never start mate.. putt putt putt and of it goes, just goes to show….

My old 3hp gets drained and run till it stops and still every spring i have to drop the float bowl and poke the pilot jet before it's having any of it..

Fine right through the summer… Was the fuel better 5 years ago?? Makes you wonder….

A tea spoon of castrol R40 in the tank doesn't do a damn thing for performance but the smell of 'R' and cut grass and i become Jeff Smith for an hour...

Your running a risk of running on a weak mixture due to partially blocked jet /jets.
