Rear Wheel speedo drive, Redditch and India the same?

Recently bought a couple of
India speedos from our hosts
to fit on Redditch machinery.
Realize now I will need cables
to suit. On Page 192 of 2013
catalogue several lengths are
listed, but unclear if these fit
the stock rear wheel 'gearbox'
on the Redditch 'bikes which
are presumably a BSF/CEI thread.
Are the India male threads the
same as the original Smiths ones?

Hi Gordon, I think you will have to fit an Indian speedo drive because the Indian inner cable square end is a fraction smaller than the Redditch ones and if it didn't spin in the drive to start with I think it would fairly quickly. I haven't got around to fitting the Indian drive to my Inter yet but I'm getting to it,

Norm, I think you may be mistaken, my English bike has an old drive with an Indian cable and speedo, it has worked for 3000 miles and even shows the correct speed.

Hi John, one of the reasons I have been reluctant to swap my Inter one is I have sitting here a cable from a 54 Meteor and the square won't fit into the Indian drive, not by much but enough to not go in. I fitted a new speedo cable from our hosts to my Inter and I don't want to start filing it to make it fit the Indian drive

Thanks Norm and John for your responses.
Will order one India cable after checking
the inner cable discrepanies. Probably
just as well the India speedo head male
stub is actually metric, else would have
wasted half a day trying to fit a imperial
brass gland nut onto the Brit cables I
already have. Even Mr H's info didn't know
for sure of the differences.
